Savannah

After we left Jekyll, we stopped in Savannah for 2 days.  We walked around the historic downtown market on the riverfront, ate at a fabulous seafood place right on the river and took a horse carriage ride through the historic market.  It was a fun two days!

This was our view of the river while we were eating at Fiddler on the Roof.  Parker and I shared some boiled shrimp and veggies and it was yummy!

While on our carriage ride, we passed this Catholic Church in the historic market.  Built in the 1800s, it cost $12 million in renovations and the church received $11 million in donations!  You can go inside and tour the church and take pictures, but we were unable to do this because the kiddos were tired.

We also passed by Juliette Low's Girl Scout headquarters and the home she grew up in.  The guide said the brown and green colors used on her home was the inspiration for the color of the girl scout uniforms!

Hannah slept for the first little bit of the ride, then she woke up and enjoyed the rest of the trip!

Debbie and Marie did a great job taking us around the market.  Thanks for a fun ride girls!  Thanks also to Grandma Henry for allowing us to take a fun carriage ride - we all had a great time!



Jekyll Island

My mom and I took the kids on a little trip to Jekyll Island over my Spring Break weekend.  It should have only taken us 5 hours to get there, but when we left on Saturday, it took a total of 7 hours!!  The first hour of our journey was just trying to get from our city to the next city south of us.  There was road construction on the main interstate, so we had to detour.  Everyone else had the same idea, so it took us 1 hour to get to the next city, when typically it takes 20 minutes.  Then, during the 2nd hour, we hit more Spring Break traffic just south of Atlanta where we were cruising at a nice 5mph!!  Thank goodness my mom was with me to hop in the backseat and feed Hannah and entertain both of them while being stuck in traffic!

So, around 4:30pm Saturday, we finally made it to our destination.  We checked into our hotel and went straight to eat at Fins on the Beach.  It was a neat little place located right on the beach.

Parker and I shared a fish dish called swai (pronounced sway).  It was a very light, white fish (like flounder) and some veggies.  It was pretty good and was cooked perfectly, because there was no fish smell and it didn't have a fishy-taste.

When we were leaving, this young couple pulled into the parking lot and their dog got out of the car with these shades on.  It was the most hilarious thing I've ever seen.  The glasses even had the strap on them that people wear so they don't fall off.  The dog was awesome and never once tried to get the glasses off!  Everyone was stopping and admiring the dog with the cool shades!

The next day, we went to the GA Sea Turtle Center.  This was a neat place and the folks there do great work.  They educate people on turtles and take care of and rehab injured sea turtles.  It was a small place, but great work is going on there!

When we were leaving the turtle center, we passed by the Horton House.  This was considered a plantation home back in 1736 - my how times have changed!

For lunch we ate at Sea Jay's - another neat restaurant on the island.  This fun place was located right beside a marina with some nice, big boats, and these big, beautiful oaks with the moss hanging on them.

While we were eating, there was a little squirrel that kept going around to all the tables outside looking for some scraps.  We didn't feed him, but some other folks did.

After lunch, we came back to the hotel and both kiddos took a nap - even I got to take a nap!!  I haven't been able to do that in months - hah!!  Once everyone woke up, we got ready and headed to the beach.  In year's past, Parker has not been a fan of the beach, so I was eagerly hoping for a good outcome this year.

He still wasn't quite too sure of the water, but he did walk out with me and let the waves come over his feet. 

Parker was definitely content to stay on the sand and watch the waves come in - hah!

After we hung out at the beach for about 20 minutes, we tried the kiddie pool. 

Well, I didn't have much luck here either.  Parker is still not a fan!  He was ok with it while standing, but once I sat him down, he didn't really like that too much.

Hannah took a little snooze, while I tried to help Parker get used to the pool.

Our last night in Jekyll, we ate dinner at Latitude 31, located right on the pier.  It was excellent food and the view was awesome.  Parker and I shared a seafood dish that was quite yummy. 

When we came out of the restaurant, there was a bar right on the pier with a live band, so we stayed for a few minutes listened to the music and danced a little.  We had a fun time!
